Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon

Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon is a glacier lake at the south end of the Vatnajökull Glacier. Fjallsjökull, which is part of the bigger glacier, reaches down to the water of the lake, where you can see icebergs floating on the surface. If you choose to visit this site of natural beauty, keep an eye out for Skúa nests on the shores, as these seabirds are fiercely protective of their young. Other wildlife in the lake includes seals, who hunt for fish and swim around the lake.

Höfn

The town of Höfn is the biggest settlement in Hornafjörður, situated near the biggest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull, which is a national park. Diverse services are provided in the area, including hotels, camping sites, restaurants, shops, swimming pools, golf courses, marked hiking trails and various museums, such as a maritime museum, two national park visitor centers and the center of the great writer Þórbergur Þórðarson. The town grew from a village in the 20th century with the rise of its fishing industry, with a large part of Icelandic lobster coming from this area, and so it has become the town specialty.

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

Jökulsárlón Lagoon is one of Iceland's most famous natural wonders, a glacial lake that runs into the ocean, where icebergs from Breiðmerkurjökull, part of Vatnajökull, fill the icy blue water of the deepest lake in Iceland. These icebergs are interesting for their colors: the white and bright blues of the ice, with streaks of ash grey from eruptions. Sometimes small icebergs wash up on the black sand shores, giving them the nickname "Diamond Beach". You may see seals hunting for fish in the lagoon. It was formed in the 1930s due to a general trend of rising temperatures, and Breiðmerkurjökull (the glacier) continues to shrink for the same reason, although at a greater rate than in the 30s, which is causing Jökulsárlón to expand.

Skaftafell

Skaftafell is part of the Vatnajökull National Park, with plentiful hiking trails leading to Svartifoss Waterfall and Skaftafellsjökull Glacier. In the region you can find Hvannadalshnjúkur, the highest mountain peak in Iceland. Due to the range of trails, there is something for everyone, and every trail leads to beautiful views.
