On this tour you will drive to the Borgarfjörður region in Western Iceland, and visit some of the most beautiful places in the region, where the famous Vikings Skallagrímur and his son Egill settled 1,000 years ago. You will also explore the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, settlement of Bárður Snæfellsás, The Peninsula like Borgafjörður has numerous lava fields with lava caves that were used by outlaws in the saga period. You can take some guided day tours to get closer to the history and sagas of Iceland. All accommodations are in very nice guesthouses or hotels, including a private bathroom, breakfast and a suitable car.

*Please note that the package price is based on 24 hour rental days starting at the time of rental. If your flight arrives early on day 1 and departs late on departure day, an extra rental day is available. You can also choose to return the car in Reykjavik when the car rental ends and use Flybus Plus or private departure transfer.


Day 1: The Borgarfjörður Region, Viking Settlement and Waterfalls.

Arrive early morning and pick up the car at the airport and drive to the Borgarfjörður Region. Spend the day in the Borgarfjörður valley, famous for its sagas of the Viking era. Here you find Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring. Continue to Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls.  There are several museums in the area such as the Icelandic settlement museum in Borgarnes, Snorrastofa culture and history exhibition in Reykholt, the home of Snorri Sturluson, Iceland´s most famous Saga writers, and Hvanneyri Farm Machinery Museum.

You can also take a guided tour to the Víðgelmir Cave in the nearby Hallmundarhraun Lava Field. The mighty Víðgelmir lava tube has a new access walkway and state of the art feature lighting system. This is a trip that the whole family can enjoy.  The stunning beauty of Víðgelmir lava cave lies in the amazing colors and rock formations.

Day 2: Into the Glacier

You can go on an optional half day guided tour Into The Glacier. Into The Glacier Adventure is truly a unique experience. You will get the opportunity of a life time to enjoy one of the world’s greatest wilderness;’Iceland’s second largest glacier’– from the inside! Never before has anyone been able to see the beautiful blue ice at the heart of an ice cap glacier. You’ll get to ride in a specially modified glacier vehicles on the glacier, explore the glacier environment, enjoy a view out of this world and go INTO the glacier to experience the glacier’s beauty from the inside!

Visit Stedji Brewery for an afternoon refreshment.

Day 3: The Snæfellsnes Penisula

Drive on to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and stay there for 2 nights. The mystical Snæfellsjökull Glacier and its National Park are protected by the legendary Bárður Snæfellsás, whose mother was human, but his father was half risi (giant) and half troll. Bardur is the patron of the glacier and was said to have had psychic abilities; e.g. being able to communicate with the hidden people. There are many very special lava formations on the shoreline.  
An interesting option is to take a boat trip on the Breiðafjördur Bay, where you have the possibility of seeing whales, birds and other wildlife. The islands in the bay are countless.

Day 4: Explore Snæfellsjökull National Park

Snæfellsjökull National Park has many interesting attractions, like waterfalls, lava caves, beaches and more. Djúpalónssandur beach is one of the highlights of the Snæfellsnes peninsula wonders. The picturesque beach is covered by countless little black stone which were shaped by the non stopping forces of the ocean and the wind. Snæfellsjökull volcano towering above gives this place a dramatic sense so unique to the Icelandic landscape. Further south on the Peninsula are the two pillar rocks LÓNDRANGAR. Driving to the north side of you pass many fantastic lava formations and views to the glacier, and the picturesque Church at Ingjaldshóll, near the village of Hellissandur, is not to be missed.   If you want to take a Lava Cave tour in VATNSHELLIR cave.

Day 5: Reykjavik City and Museums

Reykjavik is an exciting modern city with lots to see and do, or if you want to relax visit one of the many spas and swimming pools. You can also visit some of many museums in Reykjavik like the National , the Harpa City Hall, or the Nordic House. The National Museum of Iceland offers a variety of fascinating exhibitions and one permanent display illustrating lavishly the story of Iceland’s past, from the medieval days of Viking settlements to current contemporary culture. The main exhibition has over 2,000 artifacts discovered in various parts of the country.


Day 6: Departure and the Blue Lagoon

If you leave in the afternoon you can spend the morning in Reykjavik or leave early and stop by the Blue lagoon on your way to the airport.

REYKJAVÍK is the northern most capital city in the world. Lined with colorful, corrugated steel buildings, the streets in the downtown area are very pedestrian-friendly and full of fascinating museums, quaint shops, and cozy cafes.  Spend the morning exploring the city at your leisure and then head back to Keflavík airport.

You can also stop by Bláa Lónið, the Blue Lagoon, for a refreshing swim before your flight.

Standard value packages: An accommodation in hotels, guesthouses and farmhouses around Iceland. The standard accommodation room is ideal for a brief stay of up to a few days. Double rooms contain two twin beds, or one queen size bed. There is a fully equipped en suite bathroom. All hotels are equipped with central heating and television. Normally no room service is provided. Wi-Fi is available in most standard accommodations.
Quality value packages: An accommodation in 3 or 4 star like hotels or special guesthouses. The Beds can be two twin beds or one Queen or King. En-suite full bathrooms normally contain hairdryers, toiletries and towels. Bathrooms are fully equipped, either with a shower or a bathtub. Wi-Fi internet is available in all hotels free of charge. Quality accommodation offers restaurant on site. Possibility to upgrade to superior or deluxe rooms, when available.
