Educators Planning Guide
Why use Nordika Travel?
We have exceedingly high standards for quality paired with a discerning eye for value. We understand budget constraints, but we don't allow that to stand in the way of providing a high-quality tour. We select knowledgeable and friendly drivers and guides. We only book accommodations that we have personally inspected to insure that they are clean, safe, and comfortable. And we have established relationships that allow us to negotiate the best prices possible, assuring you excellent value.
We can meet your educational needs and requirements. With our abundant knowledge of what Iceland has to offer, we can custom-tailor our suggested itineraries or even build one from scratch.
We are based in the United States. This is important for a few reasons. First of all, we only quote - and you only have to pay - in US dollars. No need to worry about fluctuating exchange rates. Secondly, our business hours are Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm EST – no need to worry about a time change when trying to book your trip!
Quite simply: We know and love Iceland. All of our staff members are either native Icelanders or expats who have lived in Iceland for an extended amount of time.
Start planning!
We recommend that you start planning your tour 6-24 months in advance. Schools have varying procedures when it comes to getting a trip approved and it may take longer than you think. In addition, this time frame will allow enough time for marketing and promoting the trip.
Make it affordable!
Plan in advance. The more time you give students and/or parents to save for the trip, the better. If you are unable launch a trip far in advance (perhaps because students still have to register for courses), consider making a campus-wide announcement or sending out flyers to potential students to allow them to plan ahead.
Consider funding options. Maybe your institution or another organization is willing to chip in a bit to cut down on the out-of-pocket expense for the students.
Travel off-peak. Even though Iceland is quickly becoming a year-round destination, summer is still the peak season and so flights and accommodations tend to be in high demand and quite expensive. So…consider spring break, for example. Even though Iceland might not be the most tropical destination, it's still the perfect stage the northern lights, which can still be pretty impressive in March and April.
Try to appeal to a wide student base. In most cases, more travelers means a lower price per passenger, so offering a more generalized tour will likely get more students on board.
